This type of intervention, which is based on a structured educational approach, helps people suffering from pain, fatigue, chronic depression,or anxiety to learn strategiesto better managethe disablingsymptoms, increasetheir functional level and reintegratetheir professional activities.
Following a functional evaluation at home using the MOPEapproach (Mesure d’ordre psychosocial en ergothérapie), the occupational therapist helps the client implementing strategies that will enable their daily functional reactivation. It includes education on various concepts and daily monitoring of their application. The occupational therapist uses various tools, including monitoring of daily activities, grading of exposure to anxiety-inducing situations, grading of mental demands, exploration of choices based on their impact when facing an ambivalent issue. The goal is also the completion of meaningful activities and the establishment of a balanced schedule. The program promotes the mobilization of personal resources and a progressive reactivation the enable the person to face difficulties and regain confidence towards their rehabilitation.
The occupational therapist providing this service is specifically trained to provide a treatment that minimizes loss of function resulting from chronic pain. The PGAP is unique in preventing loss of function and is specifically designed to identify psychosocial risk factors related to pain and disability. The PGAP is indicated for clients suffering from persistent pain conditions and where pain symptoms and psychosocial factors are significant barriers to their rehabilitation. This 10-week intervention program aims to support the rehabilitation of persons struggling to manage the pain associated with a wide range of persistent conditions. Positive results are reported for people suffering from low back pain, cervical sprain, fibromyalgia, osteo-arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Studies suggest that PGAP is a cost-effective approach that improves the functioning level and facilitates the return-to-work process for people at risk of developing long-term disability. We use our working memory constantly in our daily life, whether to retain numbers in math calculation, remember what we just read, focus on a particular task without getting distracted, solve problems, plan and organize our everyday life, etc.
If you have trouble performing these tasks, you may benefit from the Cogmed Working Memory Training Program. It helps consolidating the working memory as well as enhancing attention ability and impulse control. The program is indicated for persons aged 4 and more who need to improve their working memory and attention.
Cogmed is a web-based program consisting in 25 sessions, lasting 30-45 minutes each. The sessions are followed at home on a computer, and they must be planned to be as intensive as possible, ideally 3 or 5 times a week over a 5-week period. One of our occupational therapists provides a regular follow-up with scheduled phone calls throughout the duration of the program. The program is available in English and French. Approximately 8 out of 10 participants who complete Cogmed training show measurable effects immediately following the program.

Occupational therapists specialized in the forensic (medical legal) field will proceed to a need assessment at the request of a lawyer to assist in determining losses and costs related to injuries resulting from an accident.
Ergo Consult OT can perform a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) in collaboration with law firms during a forensic assessment. Lawyers can then rely on a comprehensive report detailing the losses (such as loss of independence, equipment needed, assistance required in activities of daily living) to determine the client’s eligibility for a financial compensation.
