Constantly worrying about what may happen tomorrow, in a week, in a year, reliving unpleasant moments in thought, ruminating on negative thoughts, it all takes a lot of your energy. We often tend to completely forget to experience what we call "The present moment". So train yourself to take advantage of what is happening around you right now.
For example ; Say you are stuck in a traffic jam, or a waiting line in a store. It has been a grueling day and you still have a lot of work to do when you get home. Rather than moping and being negative, why not take the opportunity to admire the magnificent sunset, the landscape around you, or even listen to your favorite music. You won't get home any faster, but you will certainly get there less tired.
Here are some activities to help you refocus on the present moment;
1. Mindfulness Meditation :
Allow 10 minutes in your day to meditate. This activity may seem trivial, but it allows you to recharge your batteries and get rid of accumulated tensions. As your mind projects you into a universe of thoughts, quickly refocus yourself on the present moment. Focus all of your energy on the activity at hand and aim to get the most out of it.
2. Pay attention to sensory details :
Learning to live in the moment can also be a part of your daily activities. The next time you brush your teeth, direct your attention to the details; the smell of the toothpaste, the sound of the brush rubbing your teeth, the sound of water flowing from the tap etc., how do you feel at that moment? This exercise is simple and can be done during different activities of your day.
3. Positive thinking :
Thinking positively engages and promotes appreciation for the present moment, as it has a direct impact on your life. We subconsciously affect, and are affected by, the people around us. It happens unintentionally, through words, feelings, thoughts, and body language that alters our mood and energy.
Concretely, to adopt positive thoughts here is what you can do:
